Spring might be around the corner, but winter isn’t done yet! Snowstorms, freezing rain, and surprise cold snaps can still happen, and if you’re out on the road when they do, you’ll want to be prepared. Whether you're dealing with a sudden breakdown, getting stuck in a ditch, or just waiting out a storm, having the right emergency kit in your car can make all the difference.
So, before you hit the road, stock up your car with these must-have items—you never know when you might need them!
1. Stay Warm: Heat is Your First Priority
If your car breaks down or gets stuck, keeping warm is the most important thing. You don’t want to sit in a freezing car with nothing to protect you from the cold! Here’s what you should always have on hand:
🔥 Heat Holders®Thermal Hat & Gloves – Your head and hands lose heat fast, so a super-warm hat and gloves are must-haves. Heat Holders® thermal hats and gloves are made with HeatWeaver® lining that locks in warmth even in freezing temps.
🧦 Heat Holders® Thermal Socks – Cold feet can make your whole body miserable. Keep a pair of Heat Holders® thermal socks in your emergency kit—trust us, your toes will thank you!
🛏️ Heat Holders® Thermal Blanket – A super-soft, fleece blanket is perfect for staying cozy if you need to wait for help. Plus, it makes long road trips more comfortable!
🧥 Spare Heat Holders® Jacket – You never know when the temperature will drop, so an extra warm jacket is always a good idea. If you already have one on, this extra can be used for extra layering or for a passenger who might need it.

2. Be Ready for Snow & Slush
Even if most of the snow has melted, late-winter storms can strike fast. Here’s what to pack to handle snow, ice, and mud:
❄️ Ice Scraper & Snow Brush – You don’t want to drive with a windshield covered in ice!
🥶 Collapsible Shovel – If your car gets stuck, a small shovel can help dig you out.
🐾 Cat Litter or Sand – Pour this under your tires for traction if you get stuck on ice or mud.
🛞 Tire Repair Kit & Air Compressor – Potholes from melting snow can do serious damage to your tires. Be ready!
3. Roadside Emergency Essentials
Car trouble doesn’t wait for warm weather. Be ready for anything with these must-haves:
🔋 Jumper Cables or Portable Battery Pack – Cold weather drains car batteries fast! A jump start can save the day.
🛠️ Multi-Tool or Swiss Army Knife – Handy for quick fixes or opening packaging.
🛑 Reflective Triangles or Flares – If you’re stranded, make sure other drivers can see you.
🛠️ Tow Strap – If you slide into a ditch, this might help someone pull you out.
📍 Paper Map – Because sometimes, GPS stops working (especially in storms or rural areas).
📻 Portable Weather Radio – If you're travelling in the country and your phone dies, this keeps you updated on weather conditions.
📲 Phone Charger or Power Bank – A dead phone = no help, so keep a charger in your car!
4. Safety & Survival Supplies
Hopefully, you won’t be stuck for too long, but just in case, stock up on these essentials, especially if you're travelling to a remote location:
💧 Bottled Water – Staying hydrated is important, even in cold weather.
🥜 Non-Perishable Snacks – Granola bars, nuts, or dried fruit give you energy if you’re waiting for help.
💊 First Aid Kit – Includes bandages, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers for small emergencies.
🚨 Whistle – For signaling help if you're stranded in a remote area.
🔦 Flashlight & Extra Batteries – Because trying to fix something in the dark isn’t fun.
💰 Emergency Cash – Some gas stations or small repair shops still don’t take cards!
🛍️ Garbage Bags – Useful for trash, makeshift rain protection, or extra insulation.

5. Stay Dry & Comfortable
Spring means unpredictable weather—one minute it’s snowing, the next it’s raining. Pack these extra comfort items:
🌧️ Rain Poncho or Waterproof Jacket – If you have to step outside, stay dry!
🧤 Work Gloves – Protect your hands if you need to dig, push, or fix something.
🧼 Wet Wipes & Hand Sanitizer – Because mud and mess happen.
Final Check: Are You Ready?
Before you head out on your next road trip, double-check your car emergency kit. Being prepared can turn a stressful situation into a manageable one—and might even save your life.
So, pack your Heat Holders® gear, stock up on these essentials, and stay safe out there! 🚗❄️🌧️

This great information. I used to live in West Virginia and these items were just stand in our vehicle. Sure wish I had Heat Holder items back then. Living in the south I tend to forget these important items. I purchased my family members that still live in WV heat holder hat and gloves for Christmas this year. They had never seen anything so warm.
